Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

A busy afternoon for Ashley

Wow I can't believe it is already late afternoon. Today has been very busy for Ash. After rounds this morning they began to adjust her anti-rejection medicine. This is a daily battle to try and hit the right level of medication for her body. Today she was around 11 and the goal for her body this first month is 15. Ashley also received a blood transfusion today. She continues to have blood issues from the hit that her body took because of the advanced liver disease. After her transfusion I got her out of bed and rocked her for about 10 minutes. We looked at books and sang a few songs. Her little body gets so tired very quickly but before I laid her back in bed she gave me the biggest smile I have seen since the transplant. I was so encouraged. Right after she went back to her bed the physical therapist came in to make Ash do a little work. She was not happy. I giggled at the attitude she displayed. It did my heart good to see how she can turn on and off her grumpy face depending on who is bothering her. Ashley is very sore and stiff from laying in the bed and she has to work hard to get her muscles moving again. She completely ignored the therapist and refused to play with her. She is very awnry. I apologized for her behavior but inside I was just so happy to see her exhibit a little bit of attitude. She is slowly coming back to me and I am ecstatic about it!

We received the best care package in the mail today from Ashley's nurse Allison. I was so excited! I have no idea how she knew exactly what I needed but I am so thankful. It was packed full of yummy snacks(no more vending machine robbery for me), magazines, puzzle books, a notebook( which I have desperately needed), some pens, and so many fun things for Ashley. We felt so blessed. It has got to be the absolute best day I have ever had at the mailbox. Ashley loved all of the toys and books. She has already learned how to lift every flap in her new Blues Clues book. Thank you Allison. You know her so well. We miss you and we are praying for you. Be sure to take good care of yourself.

Everyday I am blessed more and more as I receive cards and notes from people who love my sweet Ashley. The guestbook is one of my favorite things. I never leave there feeling sad. Your words are so precious and encouraging to me. My prayer is that some day our tiny little one will be able to stand before you all and introduce herself to you and thank you in person for the part you have played in her story. Thank you for loving her and for praying for my Ashley.

Love, Trish
