Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

She is Moving...

Throughout last night they weaned Ash off of the paralytic medication and have allowed her to begin moving some this morning. She is not happy! My sweet girl just shakes her head no at everyone who approaches her bed. She doesn't want any of this. My heart is happy to see her move her tiny fingers and toes, but still so sad to know how miserable she is. Grandma and Aunt Toni put socks on her hands to keep her from tying to pull out her breathing tube, and she doesn't want that either.

We will attempt to wean some of the settings on the ventilator today, but there is no hope of her coming off and breathing on her own right now. The plan is to take it slow and just give her time to adjust. Her chest x-ray looks better than last nights, but it is still really "junky" and the right lung has collapses in the upper and lower lobes. She is just using the center section of the right lung at this point.

So far nothing has grown back positive in any of the cultures. I am going to ask if we can remove the catheter today. I don't really think they will, but I would like her to be as comfortable as she can be today. I have seen a small part of her eyes this morning as she heard me talk next to her bed. Then she just closed them and shook her head NO, NO. Sweet Ashley, I wish could help you. I will try to keep things as quiet as I possibly can so she might rest.

We really appreciate all who are so faithful to check on Ashley and her story each and every day. We will never be able to say thank you enough for the prayers, encouragement, and support that you give to our family. I am anxious to see what He will write on the pages of her story and on the pages of our hearts today. Take care and have a wonderful day.

I woke up at 4:45 to nurse my own baby girl and sat praying for yours. I am so glad this morning to see that they're letting her wake up, and I'll be praying today that she isn't as miserable. And I'm hoping and praying for her right lung, too!

Take care today, Trish.

I am so glad to get this update. I have checked several times (as usual) today and was getting a little concerned that you hadn't posted earlier. Thankful that little Ashley is allowed to wake and yet sad that she is so uncomfortable. Thankful that you were able to look into her precious eyes and yet sad that you feel helpless. Thankful that her organs are working but sad that the lung has not reinflated. Thankful that Glenda is there with you and Toni is still there, sad that Blake and Allie are going through tough times now. We have to remember that God is in control of their young lives. God is working in Ashley's little life and He is in control of "her story" and we just have to yield it all over to Him, Our Father. Praying with you and for you and will check back throughout the day~~~praying for good news.
