Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Sweet and Spicy?

This mornings rounds have concluded and it has been decided that although my little Ashley is oh so sweet, might she be a little "spicy" also? On Monday we will run a PH probe down her throat (it has been described to me like an ng feeding tube) and leave it there for 24 hours to test and see what the ph is of the contents she is sending back up. Could this test contain some answers to what we have all been looking for? I really have no idea, but it just made me smile to think that yes my "pickle" is sweet(sometimes) and the last few days her attitude has shown me just how "spicy" she can be too. To think that there may be a medical reason for her attitude just strikes me as funny. I know she will not be too happy with us once the probe is down her throat so I am expecting some pretty "spicy" attitude to be displayed. In addition to this test, we have decided to increase her feeds to 25 today and see what she will do. I am praying she will adjust to the new volume without any signs of discomfort.

At this point in our morning Ashley has finally decided that all of her playing though the night has caused her to be sleepy. She is now napping and I should probably join her. She definitely has her days and nights mixed up and when the lights go out her vocals go UP. If she wasn't so cute we might get irritated with her, but she has a way of keeping us all entertained while she is misbehaving. I really do hope to catch a little nap today so I will be able to "hang" with her tonight.

We will also be going to CT scan early next week to look at the mold spores in her lungs. I am praying that they will be gone and that we can put the idea of this infection behind us. She has responded so well to the treatment that it is hard to imagine that she is actually growing this mold inside of her lungs. She has been without fever for several days now, and she acts like she is feeling better and better each day. I am so thankful to be at the place we are right now. I pray for more and more progress to come our way. God has blessed us so very much and I know that He has big things in store for our Ashley. I am going to go take a little nap along with my daughter and I will post again later this afternoon. Thanks for being here with us as we travel the long road back home. God bless. Trish

Trish, your mentioning the pH probe reminded me of what we went through with my son about 3 years ago. He was having a lot of digestion and relux kinds of issues, so he had to have one of those pH probes done. He wasn't quite as active as your Ashley is (he was just over 3 months at the time), so he didn't really seem terribly bothered by it. We had to push certain buttons on a little box that was attached to the probe when he did certain things--fussed after eating, spit up, etc. In three years, though, they may have a completely different way of tracking things. I do hope this gives you some answers for Ashley--once you know what you are dealing with then you know how to work towards making it better. It's all that uncertainty that is hard. I'm so glad Ashley is doing so well! Take care, and have a great day! Love, Karen
