Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Our night time routine

Just wanted to give you guys a peek into the goings on at our house each night. I know it sounds exhausting, but I wouldn't trade it for all the world!

10:00 p.m. - Its time for baths, jammies, and meds.

11:00 p.m. - Mommy, Daddy and Ashley are now in our room and we begin discussing that it is night, night time. She begins to cry as she hears those words and sucks on her thumb.

12:00 a.m. - Ashley has convinced us that sleeping is not what she has in mind and she is expecting Blue to show up.

1:00 a.m. - David and I are laying in bed singing, "Mail Time" along with Steve, Joe, and Mailbox.

2:00 a.m. - we attempt to turn the episodes of Blues Clues off, but to no avail. We pick up our handy dandy notebooks and ready ourselves to play.

3:00 a.m. - Dave says, "Steve stinks bring on Joe."

4:00 a.m. -- Again we attempt to turn of her favorite blue puppy and convince her that we all need to sleep. Again we fail. We begin trying to figure out what Blue wants to do. We already know what Ash wants to do(and I assure you it doesn't include sleep).

5:00 a.m. - Dave says, "Joes got to go! Bring back Steve."

6:00 a.m. - We are both desperately trying to get Ash to believe that mommy and daddy have figured out every single episode of Blues Clues and searching for the same old clues is no longer fun for us. She smiles. Claps her hands, and prepares for the next one to start.

7:00 a.m. - By this hour the alarm has gone off and we have yet to close our eyes without the songs of Blue sending us into an episode of the Twilight Zone. Dave begins to do the "Blue Skew Do" dance as he dresses for work in order to entertain our little pickle.

8:00 a.m.- Daddy is gone to the office. Mommy must get up and begin the day. Ashley sleeps all the while I am sure she is dreaming of Blue and what clues she has in store for us tonight.

Our sweet Ashley Kate is quite the little pickle. She is convinced that when the lights go off, her puppy will appear. I know you are saying to yourselves, "Why don't they just turn it off?" Trust me, we have tried. When her crying begins to wake the kids in the middle of the night and they come in our room thinking we have fallen asleep and failed to start Blue over for her you know we have problems. To quiet her screaming and fussing (so that the rest of the children can rest) you would give in too and start the next show. She loves this dog and Blue has become her constant. Blue was with her in the moments before transplant. Blue was with her when she woke. Blue was there during each and every up and down she endured while in Omaha, and Blue was with her on the drive home. Her mommy was there too, but apparently I just don't do for her what Blue can do. Maybe we should play a little "blues clues" to figure this one out!

Well, its that time and I am going to begin another round. Baths, jammies and meds are coming up. You know who is waiting for us to begin trying to figure out what Blue wants to do. I just wish Blue wanted to tell our pickle to go to sleep. Perhaps she would listen to her? Good night guys. Thanks so much for checking on Ash today. You are appreciated. Take care my friends. Trish

Well, at least you can get some variety between Steve and Joe, huh? (I'm trying to find a bright side for you. :) ). Hope you get more rest tonight.

At least it's not Barney she's obsessed with--that just might drive you crazy!

What a funny little girl she is--as sorry as I'm feeling for your lack of sleep right now, I'm laughing at your pickle! She's precious :)

Joe has the cool factor, but I still prefer Steve. Maybe if she had stuffed versions of all the characters? But I'm sure she'd just want ya'll up to make them do the Ska-doo. I'm with Amy, trying to find a bright side. NOTHING kills me faster than lack of sleep! You have much more humor about it than I might. I have to stay up to do a load of Greg's shirts I forgot about and my perspective is waning fast.
