Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Grumpy

This morning I think we are all a little tired and our baby is a little grumpy. Ashley Kate cried for most of the night and that is extremely rare for her. She didn't sleep for more than an hour at a time. This morning she woke up feeling yucky and her tummy is very hard and swollen again. It continues to empty into her ostomy and for that we are thankful. Her rash has come back on her face and arms causing them to peel and hold fever. Overall she just feels bad and isn't very happy.

The doctor in rounds this morning said, "Unfortunately this just takes a really, really long time. We wait for the bowel to recover and it won't happen quickly." It sounds like we could be here a while and that makes my heart hurt. I miss Blake and Allison so very much and we were all looking forward to spending the holiday seasons together. Adjusting to life in the PICU again isn't easy, but I am thankful for the nurses who have truly become my friends. They make all the difference in the world.

Dave will be leaving tonight or possibly early in the morning. Then it will just be me and Ash again. He will not return for quite a while unless they once again think it is an emergent situation. I have no idea when I will see the kids again. My hope would be that we can avoid the "really, really long time" and just amaze everyone with a quick recovery. That is still my hope. I am going to remain as positive as I can, but there are days when the separation and Ash's struggles just bring me to the breaking point where all I can do is cry. Thankfully I don't stay that way for long. The blessings in our lives far outweigh the hurts or disappointments so I have to concentrate on those.

This video was taken last night and we wanted to share it with you. Unfortunately she doesn't look quite as good today, but you can get an idea of the grumpy attitude she has brought along with her to Omaha. You just gotta love her through it. We are still waiting for the day our sweet Ashley's smile returns to her little face.

What a riot! She is a girl who knows what she wants. Just like with the leg pose, the way she puts her arms back into position is hilarious.

Cute, cute, cute. :)

Beyond cute! God blesses us with those small, precious treasures every-so-often, doesn't He? Praying that you'll be together for the holidays. and that your family will return to as normal a routine as possible when Dave goes home. So sorry that the best place for Ashley is so far away. God give you peace and rest, I pray.

Our whole family is praying for your sweet Ashley Kate.

We would love to donate our frequent flier miles to your family so that Dave or your family can visit again soon without the financial burden. I know you must need their support.

Please email me if you will accept them. Also, we sent something to you a few months ago, but i don't think you received it. i'm going to resend it just in case.

Love,

Tammy

What a pickle! She is looking at you like "Whatever!" Praying Dave has a safe trip and that things begin to get better and better. Just remember, the docs thought she would be in surgery two days ago. So, maybe you'll be home a lot sooner than they think. Whatever is best for Ashley, of course.

It was good to hear mommy and daddy's laughter even if Miss Ashley couldn't bring herself to smile. She is soooo cute even in her grumpiness. Praying for continued healing and ornery smile to return! Lou Ann

God is good all the time and all the time God is good!
Oh that little precious darling! I see the little spark of glimmer in her little eyes, Then I saw a little smirk, then there was that look that said "oh Dad!", then I loved the look that said "oh great my mom is as crazy as my Dad!"
This precious angel still has enough spunk to play peek-a-bo and she has wonderful parents who are smart to keep play and making her "smile".
Remember laughter is good medicine for you and your precious angel!
I am so glad to see that our prayers are working.
Keep up the praying everyone!
I got see Alli & Blake across Wal-Mart on Monday night. They looked really good and Blake is so handsome in his soccer uniform!
They sure have a wonderful Grandmother!

Praying for all of you,
Molly

Ashleys pose and attitude say it all!
It makes me smile and at the same time my heart aches for her to get out of there and back home with all of you who love her so much. She is such a beauty and determination shows in her expression. Grumpy is good. I continue to pray for her miracle of healing and that you can be together as a whole family by the holidays. As much as it hurts to hear you speak of
separation and struggles, the best thing you can do for you mom, is to continue to have a good cry and let it out. God hears your cry and I hope he does amaze everyone with a
quick recovery. He is able and He is good all of the time. Rest in His peace and hope knowing you are covered in prayer.

THANK YOU for the hope that video just gave me. It is SOOO good to see her fighting back with that fighter attitude. I think that is what is getting her through all this. She truly does have an onry streak in her and I'm loving it! My husband smiled when I showed him the video. Blessings, love and prayers. Judy

This made me laugh out loud! It's hysterical the way she always returned that right arm right back behind her head every time! She REALLY IS a silly pickle. I am very much hoping that defiant attitude will work in her favor once again to put the fight in her to recover quickly. I know you would love to be home again. We're praying.

I have never ever seen another two year old sit with their hands propped behind their head - I mean how cute is that??????????????? She looks SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO cuddly in her blankets - I would be even grumpier than her if I had been through what she has :)

I love hearing you two giggle in the back ground too! We are thinking about you and praying for you - Sunshine

I think I'm the only person in the world who isn't able to watch the video and it makes me so sad. WHEN OH WHEN WILL WE BREAK DOWN AND GET "REAL" INTERNET COMPLETE WITH HIGH SPEED?! I've tried off and on all day and it just won't work on this dinosaur, dial-up, countryfied computer - guess I'm going to drive into town and go in the office and watch it. At least I get the pic and can see her grumpy, beautiful face and for that I'm grateful! I miss you all so much and my prayers are continuing day and night. I love you with all my heart! Grandma

She is such a funny girl. I'm praying today that your "really long time" either goes by really quickly, or it's a miraculously quick time. (Does that even make sense?) I'm still praying daily for you and your sweet girl. You have both made such a mark on my heart!!

Okay that is the most adorable and funniest thing ever! She is so cute! Love her! And I love that after she puts down the blanket...she puts her hands behind her head. LOVE that!

I have to agree, your little pickle putting her little arms behind her head is so funny and so sweet. What a spunky little girl. Praying for a good night for Ashley and her mommy, daddy too if he's still there. Praying you will all get some much needed sleep, and the Lord will hold you all close to him, bringing you comfort and peace. Praying your stay there will be a short one, you and your little pickle are soon back in your home with brother, sister and daddy, united as a family, all in one place. God Bless.

Awww... poor little pickle. She's such a cute little thing even when she's not giving you smiles. It looked like you almost got one close to the end. I love her signature pose! I'm praying that her recovery will be quicker than the doctors expect, and that you will be able to spend the holidays at your sweet home in Texas!
