Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Here are a few more picture of our arrival at and first few days following the transplant surgery.

Ashley arrives in Omaha, Thank you to Air Medical for the flight and getting us here so quickly.

Blake and Allie reading stories to Ash while the
donor organs are being prepared for surgery.

As I read this book to Ashley prior to the transplant surgery, I was asking myself over and over in my head if this would be the last time I would hold my little Gherkin. Would she be alive 12 hours from now. As optimistic as I usually am, at this moment I was struggling. As I read the words out loud I silently prayed to myself that God would let me hold her tomorrow and give me the chance to read her another story.

Ash is looking pretty grumpy following the transplant. We are thankful she received this life-saving transplant so quickly. God's timing is amazing. The night before we got the call to go Trish asked me if I thought Ash would ever get organs. I immediately answered with a quick "yes." I went to bed that night wondering if I was right. I always felt she would but that night I began to wonder if I was just fooling myself. God knew how our hearts hurt and at the same time we were having our doubts, He was making a way for our Gherkin to receive her new organs the very next day. How incredible to see Him answer our prayers.
