Houdini
I just spoke with Trish and she has her hands full with Ash tonight so she asked I update you all and tell you goodnight from her and Ash. She is telling me that Ash is a little Houdini. Although she has restraints to keep her arms away from the wires and tubes she always seems to find a way to escape. After her great escape she begins to try and undo all the hard work of the doctors and nurses. She was having a biopsy done on her new intestine and she was grabbing the instument from the doctor and trying to drive it herself. Well as you can guess the doctor just was not going to put up with this and my poor innocent little Gherkin had to be put in her place by the doc. It is great to hear these stories because it just goes to show how much more energy she has than when I was there with her last.
Trish was so excited to tell me of her dinner tonight and we are so thankful to Carmela Davis and her staff for providing such a wonderful meal to all the families. What a wonderful surprise this was for all. We are so thankful for you and your staff and all you are doing to be a part of Ashley's Story.
Thank you all for checking in on Ashley. There are so many more people checking the website than leaving comments. So if you feel led to please click on the guestbook tab and leave a message to Ashley or Trish or any one of us. We really enjoy reading the guestbook entries. They are such an encouragment to us.
To all who are volunteering and working for Ash, we thank you so very much.
So lets take a vote: Should Ash be our little Gherkin or our little Houdini? Click below on the comments and let me know your vote.
For those who don't know why we call her our Gherkin check the post on 9/8/2006

I vote for Gerkin because that is "the name" you had given her and one that portrays what is to come~~~e.g. The Ugly Duckling turned out to be a beautiful swan and so the "Little Gerkin" can continue the dream of becoming the big ballpark dill pickle. I love dill pickles. However, Ashley can really be both, if it turns out to be a tie vote or if it is a hard decision to make, how about Little Gerkin Houdini - presenting "The Little Pickle Who Can Get Out of Anything".
How uplifting this is and I hope all the family is having fun with this as the votes come in.
Interesting question... When you are in a pickle, who could be better than Houdini? - Unless of course you already are a pickle. I guess, then, you'd feel right at home. (Some things just don't make a lot of sense at 3:30 in the morning.) Anyway, I am so glad that Ash is doing better. I have grown to love her no matter what her nickname is. Thank you for the posts - it is good to know how to pray.
