A Pretty Light, Two Eyes & A Leak.
I just got finished playing with the Gherkin. It was so great!! She had more energy than I have seen from her since I got here. She had a little red light taped to her finger that measures the amount of oxygen saturation in her blood. She managed to pull it off of her finger and started playing with it. She was waving it around and showing it to me. Hey dad, look at this pretty light, look what I found. The alarms were going off all around and normally I would just put the light back on, but we were having to much fun. I was not about to take that away from her, she worked to hard to get it off. If I had taken it away I would have been a joy squasher and a squasher of joy I am not. While tossing the little light around she was so excited she opened not one but two eyes. This was also the first time I have seen both of her eyes since I got here. Wooohooooo..... two great things in one night, this is great. We are partying in Ash's room tonight. Oh yeah there was a leak in the title wasn't there? Ash had her arms and legs flailing around so much she sprung a leak in her ostomy bag. Not a problem, her nurse put a new bag on her and all is fine now. When she was changing the bag I got my first look at her ostomy sight. How strange it was to see a small intestine protruding from my child's abdomen. Then as I thought about it I realize I was looking not at her intestine, but that of the donor. It made me pause and once again pray for the family that was so important in the life of our Ash. I pray for that family tonight. I pray that one day they may know how much they are loved by us for giving Ashley a chance to live. I hope one day to know this precious family and to let them know how much we love them. Thank you all for checking in on Ash today. Thank you for loving her and praying for her. Thank you for praying for us. Thank you for being such an important part of Ashley's Story.
Thank you Lord for letting me play with Ash before I had to go home.
Goodnight,
DAVE
