Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

2/06/2008

Admitted

Ash was admitted to our local hospital around 3pm this afternoon. I have a very unreliable internet connection so updating has been so frustrating. I have no idea if this will even post, but I am going to try.

As the morning went on Ash became worse. I was so concerned I called the doctor's office and got her appointment moved up by 2 hours. By the time we got there her heartbeat and respirations were extremely elevated. Still she showed no signs of infection of any indication of what might be wrong. We knew from experience that Ash was probably not satting where she needed to be and sure enough once the probe was hooked up she was only at 67%. We immediately put her on oxygen and moved over to the hospital.

We have run every test you could think of and to this point all have been negative. We have no idea why she isn't breathing well without oxygen support. We will be waiting on her blood cultures to come back over the next 72 hours, but her white blood cell count was in range so we don't really suspect and infection. There is an echo cardiogram ordered to check her heart but we haven't seen them yet. Her lungs sound clear. No fevers. No stooling out. No reason that has been identified for her feeling so yucky the last two days. So we wait.

At this point we feel it is safe to remain close to home. If things change or tests are ordered that can't be done here we will move over to our new team at Cristus Schumpert in Shreveport. I don't really expect to find out she is in rejection because she has no other symptoms except for the vomiting she has been doing for over 4 months now.

So tonight we will sleep in what has become all too familiar to our little pickle... a hospital crib. She's not happy about being here, but as long as no one new comes into the room she is handling it. As soon as the nurse steps in she loses it.

Both of our friends remain hospitalized tonight. I know their mommies would appreciate your prayers as do we. Thank you so much for checking on Ash. Take care. Trish

Update: Ashley Kate's chest x-ray have shown that she has pneumonia in both lungs. Her right lung is worse than the left. We knew that her cold had the potential of turning into pneumonia, but we had hoped it would not. Last week her chest x-rays were clear so this is very new. They are attempting to start an IV so that we can start running antibiotics. If they can't get one started she will receive shots in the muscle every 12 hours. Please pray that they will get it quickly and that she will not hurt too bad. Of all the things my sweet baby goes through this is what I hate the most. My heart breaks each and every time she has to be stuck. As soon as she can breathe on her own again without oxygen we will be allowed to go home and switch to enteral anitbiotics.

Praying for you all!!

Schumpert is a great hospital--my Aunt Claudia is a nurse there...good and wise folks. Praying that Ashley does not need to go there, though. Our Tabor has begun to run a fever on and off the past two days--perhaps there is a virus going around. Praying for hydration and health.
Love,
holly

Praying for Ashley and all that needs to be done right now to help her heal from the pneumonia and especially that they can get a line in for the IV. Praying for you too Trish. You did real good in following your instincts and getting her in. Praying too for good rest for both of you.

Love, Laurie in Ca.
