Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Looking Further

It was a miserable night. Ash cried most of it, coughed a lot of it, and vomited through out it. I was up and down every hour with her and we are both exhausted. This morning hasn't been any better and is possibly a little worse. She is growling and hitting her head. Coughing and vomiting. We are going in this afternoon to look further and run tests or labs or more films or whatever they can think of. I hope its nothing, but the longer it goes on the more concerned I am becoming. She is breathing really fast, but her blood pressure is ok and her chest films looked fine. It may just be that she is uncomfortable. Sometimes pain can cause her to breathe rapidly. My main concern today is to check her oxygen sats and make sure she is getting enough. I began venting her g-tube this morning, but had not thought of venting her j. I'm not getting anything out of the g which is a little confusing because what she is vomiting is gastric content with no sign of formula in it. I thought for sure I would be able to empty out her tummy and make her more comfortable but it isn't working. I'm a little baffled by this one. Gwen, did I read it correctly that you vent her Jtube as well and then re-turn the content? I'm going to try it, but I know her formula will empty out of it. Thanks for your help.

Your continued prayers are appreciated. My hope is to figure out what is hurting her without an admission to the hospital. Blake and Allie(especially Al) seemed very concerned when praying for Ash this morning about a return to the hospital. As always we will do what is necessary for Ash, but if we can do it at home that is our preference. Thanks guys for praying. Trish

Ash is in our prayers throughout our days, but especially now. I hate it that she feels so yucky, and that you all have to watch it without an answer, which I am praying for as well (that one is found.) Praying for Blake and Al, too. They are learning to be compassionate through this, yes, but I know it has to be heavy on their young hearts. May our Lord grant an answer soon. --Nikki

Trish-
No, I don't vent her j-tube. Sorry, I jumbled my words. I just vent the gtube and on days the she is not doing well, I pretty much vent it all day.

That doesn't sound right though if she is throwing up gastric juice. You know, we were told to flush Ivey's g and j tube with Sprite occassionally. Have you tried that? If the tube is blocked the acid in Sprite can help to unblock it. Gingerale works too. Sounds like something might be mechanical. Ivey has even twisted her button before and it spun the j out of position in her intestines.
As for every thing else, I hope that it is just a bug. Bugs can be a big deal in our world though. Good luck. I don't know, you do everything we do, but it is nice to hear someone else who is doing the same things everyday. In a weird way..it is moral support. You aren't alone! Keep plugging away!
