No Answers or New Ideas
The films we took today indicate that all is well with the J-tube. I had hoped we would find an issue with it and know that this was the problem. Other than our and our doctors suspicion that it may be interfering with the normal flow of peristolisis we can see no indication for pulling it today. She continues to be fussy and not her happy, smiley self, but other than that we have no "proof" that anything is wrong. So we will not change our current plans for labs on next Tuesday and an appointment in Shreveport on the 29th unless she spikes a fever. If that happens then everything will be moved up immediately.
Our main concern is the increase in vomiting and daily headaches. She has been throwing up since the last week in September, but the volume of what is coming up has increased. She isn't losing any formula or calories because of the placement of the J-tube, but the gastric content is causing her discomfort as it comes up. You can tell it must be burning or irritating her throat because she cries and throws herself backwards whenever it happens. She is currently on Prevacid because her Prednisone has a side effect of causing stomach ulcers. So there isn't much more that can be done for the irritation of the vomiting. I just wish it would stop. When vomiting was the first sign and first symptom we saw of her episode of rejection it makes it very difficult to sit back and think that all is well and that this is just normal for Ash.
If you were to see her today you would think she looks great because she really does. We are really thankful for that, but at the same time we know her really, really well and she doesn't feel good today. I am hoping she is just having an off day and that nothing more is going on. For now that is all I can do. I just wanted to update everyone and thank you for your prayers.

Then we will continue doing what we do best.Pray!! It is so difficult when a typical child isn't feeling well. I'm sure with your little Ashley, all those worries are magnified. God bless all 5 of you!
I will be praying for her and for your peace of mind with this. I can only imagine how this causes your minds to race and for fear to enter your heart. Big prayers here for all 5 of you tonight and the days ahead. Thank you for letting us know.

Continuing to pray for Ash and you folks, too. Also, the Drs. that they would have the wisdom necessary to treat her!
Prayerfully,
Shari
Trish,
Does Ashley have a g-tube also? Ivey has a g-j tube. We vent the g-tube very frequently through out the day and night. You may do this already if she does have a gtube. If not, we connect a 60cc syringe to the extention-the contents come out through to the syringe. Then I either drain it back into the gtube or refeed it into the jtube. She throws up less because the air from her tummy escapes from the gtube. I remove the stopper from the syringe and roll a paper towel up to block off the end of the syringe.
You probably do this. We tried a Ferrell bag when she was in the hospital....don't waste your time or money. Make sure to refeed any residual, you don't want her electrolytes off balance.
Even if you are doing this, I will get a picture of Ivey while we are venting her gtube (I always vent her while she is feeding) Her feeds go in through the jtube too. Anyway, we are like McGyver around here and have figured out a way to hang the syringe for convenience. I will try to get a picture tomorrow.
You are doing an awesome job. Also, I got to take a very short girls' night out this past Saturday. You need one too. It will make you feel like a million bucks.
Gwen (Ivey's mom)
Keep you in my prayers.

Sounds like you just received some pretty good info, but I thought I would pass something else along. You probably already know this, but when I was throwing up and just having a terrible time with it, the hospital recommended getting a Sprite or 7-up and letting the fizz go out and then drinking the sugar water. They don't know why, but it helps calm the stomach, if it is her stomach. The other thing that I just heard, and I haven't tried yet, is Gaterade helps with headaches. I'm going to give this one a try the next time I get a migraine and see if it works. I don't know if either of these will help you or even if you want it, but I feel so sad that she has to go through this. I'll definitely put in a prayer for her while at church today. That's probably the best thing for me to do. Sorry if I wrote too much. Love, Stephanie
