Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

What is going on???

Can anyone explain this to me? What is going on with our sweet girl? This is what she looks like at this moment. Her body is covered in these red spots and then they disappear. An hour later they are back, but in a different location. It makes no sense to anyone. Her heart rate is in the 190s and she is miserable. The look in her eyes tells us she knows something is wrong and we are helpless to stop it. She continues to swell in her abdomen area and this is the scariest part for us. Something is wrong and she needs help. I have never seen her tummy look like this before. What is going on?

Please pray for Ash. Please pray for us because it is becoming more and more difficult to stay calm as her condition seems to worsen. I don't want to panic and I don't want to lose it, but since we arrived she is only getting larger and larger and more and more uncomfortable.

Ah, Ashley! What a doll. Her little personality shows through in that photo, even though she is so sick. We are praying--that's the BEST thing we can do. Hang in there!

Bless her heart. She looks so sad.

Is there any chance at all that it might be something as simple as Fifths Disease? If I recall correctly, the rash can come and go in various parts of the body during the course of the disease. It is actually in it's end stages when the rash appears, and is in its most active stages prior to that point. Usually there is no fever, but that would not necessarily be true in an immunosupressed patient.

It doesn't seem a likely diagnosis... but the disappearing/reappearing rash made me wonder. And even if it's not... if it is a nasty virus, is it typical of viruses to have the rash be the final hoorah? Like with chickenpox... once they break out and the pox scab over, they're on the upswing, even though that seems to be the "misery peak"?

I do hope you get answers very soon, and will continue to pray for all of you, and for the doctors that are trying to determine what is wrong. It's just so sad to see her looking so sad.

We continue to pray for wisdom for the medical team to figure out what is going on and then knowing what to do once they do. I'm joining everyone else in praising Him for a good procedure and no signs of rejection. Now, we'll continue praying for a clear diagnosis.

My heart is breaking into pieces for you all. The prayers are going up fast and furious! I was sharing your story with one of my friends who works in the Medical fields and she said to mention the "Steven Johnson syndrome." Since she said this I wanted to share...maybe it is the Holy Spirit? Maybe nothing but I could not sleep knowing I did not mention it! I will continue to pray for you and Ms. Ashley....you all have touched my life more than you know!

Hey I have to admit I thought of fifths disease too. Although I think her doctors should detect that. I had fifths this year and ran a low grade fever and had swelling with the rash but no stomach problems. Maybe Ash is still writing her own course as before when she had doctors baffled. Anyway still praying and believing for healing and your peace through this. God Bless!!

my three year old had a virus last year about this time - a tummy virus and as it ended it she broke out in a rash that would come and go like that...I am so sorry Ashley is so sick. We will continue to pray for you all and I am SO sorry it is so rough for you all right now. I pray that God upholds you and Dave as you have to sit and silently watch her battle this! Many hugs and prayers - Sunshine

I doubt this will be helpful but maybe viral meningitis caused by enteroviruses or other viruses? Your Docs have probably thought of this. Many of the same symptoms: rash, vomiting, fever, common in summer & fall but less serious than bacterial. The CDC weblink for basic info is

We wish we could help and can only pray.

I'm in the hospital with my immunocompromised son, he has viral or aseptic meningitis. Just today (3-4 days after headache) he has developed a rash that looks like Ashleys. Viral Meningitis is going around, have they checked?

My husband is with our girls, I miss them so much. Isn't it hard, this balancing beam we must walk? I think you are amazing and I look up to you as a Christian mother raising/loving her chronically ill child. I am learning a lot from you! THank you and God Bless your sweet Ashley Kate as well as your other children, and of course praying for strength for you and your husbnad.

Here is my sons care page

his care page name is graysondavis

Blessings and Prayers to your family.

I wish I could help you figure out what is happening with your sweet baby girl, Ashley. Have you visited www.webmd.com? They have a 'Symptom Checker' where you can input Ashley's symptoms and receive ideas on what could be going on. Just an idea - maybe there is something on there that can help with Ashley's diagnosis.

We continue to pray for Ashley, as well as you all, and her doctors.

God's Blessings,

I pray that this is the signs of a retreating virus. Poor Ash!

I remember being in the hospital when my son was an infant & was diagnosed with viral meningitis. They were waiting on cultures to rule out bacterial meningitis (which was eventually ruled out) & he developed a rash -- seems it was on his abdomen and maybe back. I do not think it was as intense as that one, but he was a 5-week-old with almost newborn skin, so it would possibly present differently. The doctor saw the rash and seemed encouraged that the meningitis was likely viral, because apparently rashes tend to go with viral illness. By God's Hand it was apparently viral, and he recovered fine. I hope Ashley's is only a virus and is on its way OUT without depleting her any more. Praying.

I pray that the Lord gives the doctors wisdom to figure out what is going on, Trish and Dave the courage to continue fighting the good fight of faith and strength for Ashley to fight this off like she has fought so much off before. Please keep us posted as you always do.

Oh, she looks miserable--and still so precious!! I'm praying for answers, hope, and rest for all of you! When my son Grayson gets a virus, he breaks out in hives and petechiae almost every single time. Our dr. said that some kids' immune systems respond to viruses with rashes, etc. I'm hopeful that Ashley's rash is nothing serious, and that she's nearing the end of this, whatever it is! We're all praying for her here tonight in our house, and hoping for a happy report tomorrow.

Has the vomiting and tummy rumbling stopped? Could the distension be just from all the intestinal turmoil, or has the turmoil slowed down?

Praying that they find answers soon. I'm sure it's so hard not knowing what's wrong. I pray that God would fill you with an incredible peace tonight and that you, Dave, and Ashley would all be able to rest. Sweet Ashley is on my heart!

Dave and Trish-
She looks so miserable! And I know you are sad and on edge and very nervous! I can't even imagine what you are going through. I am praying for answers, for Ash to be healed and for you to be strengthened by our Heavenly Father during this difficult time. My heart is with you!
Lovingly,
Shari

Have they ruled out Toxic Shock Syndrome for the skin pealing? Any chance the rash is a result of a reaction to a blood transfusion?
