Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

So Much More

This is not all there is. She is oh so much more. More than hospital beds. More than monitors. More than leads and wires. More than meds. More than scans, and tests, and procedures. The Father has so much more in store.

Some days it becomes difficult as her mommy because while we are here she is "just Ashley". She is known as the patient, but they don't see the little girl. She is known by her chart, but not by her heart. I want so badly to announce to everyone that she is more than what they see in front of them. What they know is our Ashley on her bad days, but if they only knew our Ashley on the good days. If they could see her laugh the way she laughs when she plays with her daddy on the floor. If they could see the twinkle in her eyes each afternoon when we open the car door for Blake and Allie after school. If they could see the wonder on her face as she sits with her Nan on the front porch to watch the birds take a bath. If they could feel her tiny arms wrapped around their necks with all the love she can muster then I know they would get it. She is so much more than the patient. She has a life. A home. A church. A community. A family.

Ashley has spent some of her life confined to a hospital room, but I wish everyone could see her on the days when she is not. She lives. She plays. She loves to be outside. If you could see the look on her face as she watches a butterfly fluttering in the garden. Or if you could see how intently she watches Blake throw a ball. How about the way she claps her hands when Allie "rescues " her from her crib. Nothing is sweeter than to see her sleeping on her daddy's chest while he naps at lunch time. Oh, how amazing it is to feel her relax into my chest as we rock.

I know in my heart the Father has so much more planned for her life. I know she will do more things. She will see stand on the mountains and behold the beauty He created . She will play in the waves as the ocean breaks against the beach. There are many sunsets she has yet to see. Raindrops she has yet to feel on her face. Leaves she will run through. She will learn and grow and experience more and more and more. I believe this.

This is only a time in her life. It does not define her. She is so much more than what they know. She is our daughter and she is so very special. Its easy for some to think we have "put " her through all of this. Perhaps they have missed seeing the twinkle in her eye, the fight in her spirit, the smile on that beautiful face. Perhaps they can't acknowledge the value in His creation. Perhaps they have closed their hearts to watching the hand of the God who created her work in her life. I don't know how they fail to see the miracle of who she is? It astounds me that someone would choose not to see that there is so much more going on here. My heart breaks because they have chosen to miss out on that so much more. What would the Father have done in their hearts had they only opened them up to this little girl?

I want each and every one of you to know that you are loved. We could not be more touched by the love and prayers and support that we feel from you. The Father has used you in the life of our family over and over again. On the hard days, you are there to encourage. On the good days, you are there to share. On the "normal" days, you are there to rejoice with us that we have achieved them. I am forever changed by this body of believers who have allowed themselves to love our Ashley. Thank you so very much. Trish

In the Name of Jesus, I stand in agreement with every word you have prophesied over your Ashley this day, and I ask God to set his angels on guard over bringing each and every statement to pass. According to Matt. 18:18 I agree it into being in the mighty Name of Jesus. Amen.

I agree wholeheartedly with everything you have said here, Trish. She has been created by God and He isn't finished with her yet. He has so much more for her! Thank you for this post. I am thankful daily that He picked you and Dave to be her parents. You are an encouragement and a blessing to many. As is Ashley's story that you have chose to share.

Thank you, dear one!

Shari

YES!!!! She is SO MUCH MORE! I am in agreement with the first two commenters here! I speak Jeremiah 29:11 over her life.
Just had to say also, the way you just tend to every little detail to make Ashley so comfortable in every way! Her bed just looks so comfy and fresh and her darling jammies you put her in. She is so tended to and it breaks my heart to think of those little children in the hospital that do not get this kind of loving care. She has you right by her side and look at what LOVE can do! She is just looking wonderful and those beautiful eyes are sparkling again!
Just had to check before going to bed.
I start my chemo next week and I have feared it so much,it all has happened so quick since my diagnosis and then surgery for breast cancer, but I tell myself that if Ashley can go through what she has, I can get through chemo. She gives me the strength to say that I can do it. She touches lives in ways you can't imagine and YOU DO TOO! God knows how much!
Hugs to you both tonight from Ohio.
Cheryl

Ashley is just beautiful, you are just beautiful, and your words are heartwarming. Our Father has spoken to millions through Ashley. Those of us who don't know you, your family, or Ashley personally have come to know and love her and your family as our own. I pray that the Lord continue to give you strength, hope, wisdom, and faith on this journey. You're a good mother. I just want to hug and squeeze little Ashley...she is just so adorable!

Her life is an amazingly precious gift whether she's in the hospital or at home! God is using her (and your family)in great ways. What a precious gift from God she is! Praying that she can get back to enjoying her home life soon, although she definitely seems to be finding things to amuse herself with even a cup of ice :)

She IS so much more.
And so are our lives. I have learned this through the journey. The extra squeezes and snuggles shared with the kids. Checking on them each night as they lay sleeping and watching them breath easy. Being thankful for our blessings. Sharing Ashley with my son and watching him pray and be grateful for her good days. We are all learning, growing and finding new places in our hearts to open up.
So much more.
How true.
Thank you, from our hearts to yours,
Prayers in CT,
Heidi

This is such a beautiful post from the heart of a mother and I agree with every single word. She has stolen this grandmas' heart here in Ca. I am praying for her continued healing in every part of her little body. Family time will be so precious for you next week and I hope you will be able to take her outside for a touch of nature and home. You are such a loving mommy Trish and you are so right in knowing this is just a moment in the life God has planned for her. I know in my heart she will do all of the things you are believing in, and so much more. Let the Lord keep your hope high and do not be discouraged by the people who don't get it. She is so special in our eyes and especially Gods eyes. Keep your eyes on this and draw strength and peace today.

Love, Laurie in Ca.

She is a blessing to so many who eagerly check on her everyday. She is the first one on my prayer list every day.
She is the one my 12 year old daughter asks about everynight.
She is the one that we laugh at her grumpy face and the way she puts her hands behind her head.
She is the on that we cry for when she hurts.
She is the one who makes me hug my girls a little tighter each night.
She is the one who makes me love my God even more.
Yep, she is more all right.

Thanks for sharing her!

Oh YES, she is...oh YES! Praying for you all this day, this weekend. Asking Jehovah Rapha to heal and get you home soon!

I thought, too, that if some of the folks at the hospital began to "feel" something, then the hardness of their work's protective shell might just fall off. And they might start acting human about it.... I pray they will!
Love,
holly

maybe they did everything and more too and maybe they lost their child...maybe they aren't done working with God on their heart issues...you have the heart for Ashley that you do because of God - it is about Him.

I just wanted to add that as we were all brought together as a family of God's children to pray for Ashley we will also be praying for you, Cheryl!

This is such a loving online "community" that the Lord has built through our sweet Ashley. I know that she has even bigger things to accomplish in her life. I look forward to hearing the stories that she will tell her grand-children about how she overcame the impossible at such a young age by pure determination, the power of prayer, and the love of many strangers.

Thank you so much, Trish, for allowing this online "family" to grow in size, in spirit, and in the Lord.

Trish, I pray His continued blessings and love upon you and your entire family. Thank you for the reminder to think big, rather than little. There is so much more in most people than we give them credit for.

This pictured of Ashley, the anticipating look on her face...I want to scoop her up, ask her if I may hold her for a moment and breathe in that pink bundled goodness. She looks so huggable!

Of course that bed, those leads, those meds, and all the chaos around her does not define her. We can see the toddler who longs to toddle beneath and beyond all of that!

I stand with you and all else who gather in this place, around the bed of this tiny bundle of goodness and God's mercy, and pray for God's healing, grace, deliverance from the leads and the tubes and the beeps and buttons. And a joyful reunion with her own bed. Her own toys. Her daddy and her siblings and all those who await her getting better!

And you, Trish, are loved more than you know as well!

Since I have only known Ashley through this current hospitalization, I'm now inspired to devote some time to reading your archives. I'd love to get to know the real Ashley Kate, outside of hospital walls. And I'll be praying that we'll all be seeing THAT Ashley, not Ashley the Hospital Patient, very, very soon!

I'm anticipating that I'll also get to know your other precious children that way, too. I'll definitely be setting aside some time to do some reading here soon!
