Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

2/11/2008

Pee, Pee Baby. Pee!

I am aware of how ridiculous that title sounds and some may think it inappropriate, but this is my prayer. I find myself whispering it in Ashley's ear. Our little one is 2 kilos heavy with fluid. There is 2.2 pounds per kilo. Making her over 4 pounds heavier than when we arrived. It is because of this extra volume that her heart rate is struggling and her left lung struggles to fill with air. We have just finished an albumin infusion to transfer some back into her vessels and are chasing it with another dose of lasix in hopes her peeing it all off. We have been able to avoid the chest tube so far. I want this to work!

No answers yet as to why she is so sick. Her lungs are very, very fragile. Her blood stream is clear and that is a huge praise. All of the tests and cultures remain negative and we are hoping to be able to stop some of the anti biotic coverage by this evening. All of these drugs are adding large amounts of volume into her body causing her swelling and fluid issues to worsen.

We were up throughout the night fighting the collapse of her upper right lobe. She has not yet responded to the CPT(its a form of percussion treatment that helps to open the lung and allow it to re inflate). Her blood gases are improving and we started to wean her oxygen level back again.

The things we need to be praying for are:

1. Fluid removal

2. Lung tissue to repair

3. Pee pee

4. No line infections

Your prayers are so appreciated. Our little friend who we joined at the hospital in Shreveport was airlifted back here to Omaha last night as well. If you would add her and her family to your prayers I know she could really use it. I'm going to lay down in my favorite recliner and try to close my eyes. It was a really, really long night, but it finally ended and today is a new day and a new opportunity to sit back and watch God at work in my daughter's life. Thanks for being here with us. The support you give lifts so much of the burden I feel. Knowing that you are sincerely praying for her healing and recovery is the most amazing feeling.

Please know that I too have had you CONSTANTLY in my thoughts and prayers since I read about little Ashley's need and you and your husband, from another blogger. I continue to check updates.

You said in another journal post..that you don't know just yet what God is doing...HE IS...manifesting HIS GLORY!! believe me..everytime you mention the LORD GOD as your strength, giving thanks for what he has done for you already...I agree with the person who said..GOD is manifesting the difference in your life at this time by faith in GOD versus those who do not have any faith to sustain them. Nurses, doctors, other parents will find hope and seek the LORD by watching you. Ashley is a special gift of GOD that he is using to show forth reality of life and his graces.
HE is also using YOU as a MOTHER to show this world...LOVE that still exist in the MOTHERING heart. The Bible says in the last days..the love of many shall wax cold...it is...BUT NOT IN YOU and your sweet family!!!
This is a "mission" for the LORD...may GOD use you all to the saving of souls.
Hope...

That picture just breaks my heart. I cannot imagine the emotional pain you are in as a mom to such a sweet little girl that is fighting so hard. I pray that God will heal her precious body of the mystery that has invaded it. I pray that you will be able to get the rest that your body needs during this time. Sweet Ashley, fight hard, your mommy (and the rest of your family) loves you so much!!

The Profitableness of Affliction
I do not think that we ever pray with such fervor of supplication in our prosperity as we do in our adversity. And then how precious the promises become! As we only see the stars when the shadows gather at night, so the promises shine out like newly-kindled stars when we get into the night of affliction. I am sure that there are passages of Scripture which are full of consolation, the depths of which we do not even imagine yet, and we never shall know all that is in them till we get into the deeps of soul trouble which correspond with them. There are points of view from which scenery is to be beheld at its best; and, until we find out those points of view, we may be missing the sight of some of the most beautiful objects in nature. God leads us one way and another by our chastisements to understand and prize his promises.

And, oh, dear friends, how should we ever know the faithfulness of God if it were not for affliction? We might talk about it and theoretically understand it; but to try to prove the greatness of Jehovah’s love, and the absolute certainty of His eternal faithfulness — this comes not except by the way of affliction and trial.

I might talk on for ever about the sweet uses of adversity, and not exhaust the subject. You experienced people of God know even more than I do about this matter, for some of you have done business on deeper waters than my barque has yet ploughed; and yet, methinks, my keel has passed over the deep places of the sea of trouble, and there may be deeper depths before me still. I have probably said sufficient to prove to you that chastening is a divine way of instructing us. You will find that, if you want the most Christ-like saints, and the most deeply experimental believers, and the Christians who are best acquainted with the Word of God, you must look for them among those who are the most intimately acquainted with the fiery furnace and its burning heat.

You're not alone, pee is good and it means so many things are working right. I used to get kind of excited when emptying the foley bags when I worked ICU. A good bit to empty was a sign of such good news.
I pray your little ones starts churing out all that liquid soon.

we were in Iowa City yesterday for pre-op appointments, so I didn't read yesterday's post. First, in regards to todays post, we are praying for pee!!!!!! Re: yesterday's, I know you are waiting for those beautiful feet to bring you good news, whosever they may be. But, in addition, maybe you are to be the one with beautiful feet to share THE GOOD NEWS with someone there.

We are praying for the other family as well. Do you have names, do they have a carepage or blog, or anything? By the way, carepages is available to anyone, and only takes 5 minutes to set up. There is no charge to use the website. (go to carepages.com)

Praying for you, too, as you find yourself away from home and family, again. Praying you rely on His strength daily, and rest in HIs loving care...

I pray to our Good Lord for the doctors to find answers quickly! I pray for everything you and Ashley and your family needs! So very sorry you all are going through all of this.
May God keep you all close to His heart in your time of need....
