Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Waking Up

Ash is back in her room here at the PICU and is just starting to wake up. She peeked at me through tiny slits in her eyelids and began to shake, "no,no". Both femoral lines have been removed. The subclavian line has been placed. The surgeon just left and told me the new chest tube instantly put out 150cc as soon as they inserted it and is continuing to drain. Her left chest tube continues to put out high amounts of fluid as well.

Her vent settings are low enough to extubate but her sedation and pain meds must be weaned. This is good and bad. Good because it is the next step in having her breathe on her own again. Bad because she must learn to cope with the breathing tube, the discomfort of the chest tubes, and the soreness from her line attempts and placement. She is very sore and very bruised from all that she has endured over the past 10 days. Please pray that she will be able to cope with the wean of all the meds. Ash has a huge history of withdrawal from these medications. It could be a very long day and night for my sweet Ashley.

Ultimately all of this is good news. It is a painful process, but one that must take place in order to get her back home. That is our ultimate goal. Living life, happily back in our little yellow house as a family of five.

Checking up on Ashley. Thinking of you and praying at every thought. My prayer is that she will be comforted by God as she comes to & is surrounded by pain and that He will ease that pain ,for a girl that is so tiny. A little girl that He loves so much & that we all love too. I will be checking back and praying all weekend long. You are all in my thoughts. COlleen

I have been checking out your website the last week, and last night i had a dream about Ashley. I dreamed that after surgery, she would be extudated and start improving. We were all praising God....So what did I do, but go to the website, and there was a post about her going to surgery and that she is scheduled to be extubated!!! What a peace! This is wonderful!!! Praise the Lord, our prayers are being answered!

Wonderful news that the surgery went well and that she's back in her room trying to rest. I'll be praying for God to give the little pickle some extra patience and super-natural pain relief as she struggles against her soreness and discomfort. I'll be praying that she can rest well, despite what she has gone through and despite her usual pattern when weaning off the meds. And I'll be praying that the road back to the little yellow house is a short and easy one from here on out!!!

Prayers are continuing. First that she doesn't have difficulty being weaned off the medications and secondly that God will ease her pain and give her (and you)rest. So glad to see she is already showing some fight again. God has blessed her with spirit and HIS SPIRIT is strong in her too.

Thank you Lord for protecting Ashley this morning and bringing her back to her mommy and daddy. God has been so faithful to carry her along this journey and we are grateful for that. May He continue to watch over her as she goes through the withdrawals that come along with the weaning of meds. He loves you and your family and it is so obvious how much you love HIM!

We are praying for you and your family. It is SO hard to have a child go off to surgery. I've only been through it 3 times, but it was not easy. It doesn't compare to what you feel, but I have a glimmer, so I'll keep praying. God's Blessings on you & Ashley!

Let me start by saying I am a devout Christian and believe the Father's hand is guiding every aspect of Ashley's life. I have been praying for Ashley now for a couple of weeks since her story was brought to my attention. I read her entire story from birth to the present. There is no doubt that our God is amazing....your Ashley is testement to that but I am wondering if all this effort on the doctors part to save Ashley is going above and beyond. Do you ever ask yourself how much is too much or how much suffering is she going to have to endure before its enough. Is this how she will spend her entire life?
