Be Encouraged

On her way to the Scope and Biopsy

At the end of Ashley's biopsy the GI doctor looked at me and said, "Trish, lets just be encouraged." I love this guy! He has the best, most positive attitude of any doctor we have ever had. He is so dedicated to these children and their well being. I truly appreciate him and I can't tell him that enough. We all love him. So, I am taking his advice tonight and I am going to "be encouraged." From what we saw on the screen this afternoon the bowel looks to be a little better in some areas. For that I am thankful. In other areas it is obvious that it doesn't look too good. I will be interested to see if the pathology supports what we have seen with our eyes. Tomorrow we will know if the treatment has worked or if we hit her with even bigger guns in our attempts to rid her body of rejection. I can't imagine the side effects getting any worse, but they assure me they can if we have to switch to round three. It will include a different immunosuppressive drug that we have never had her on. All I know is that the doctor told me, "If we have to use that it won't be pretty." Again, lets just "be encouraged", and not worry about that until we get there. I truly believe God gave me those words today, and I am going to hold on to them.

Ash is grunting pretty hard this evening. The nurse thinks it is because of the effusion. I hope it is only the distension in her tummy from the scope. We will just watch her through the night and see what happens. She feels pretty miserable tonight and I have tucked her in under a soft blanket and dimmed the lights so she might drift off to sleep. Even all puffed up she looks sweet and beautiful under that pink blanket. Her cheeks are a little flushed making her look like she is rosy and glowing. I can still see those long lashes and her pouty little lips. As she lays there I sit and stare at her beauty and I am thankful she is here.

Dave and Allison are out on date night. Dinner and Putt Putt. Its alway the same. When they first started "dating" they carved their names in the tunnel at the putt putt place. Dad loves Allie. Each time they go she searches the tunnel to make sure it is still there. I love that! She called this afternoon and asked me to help her figure out what to wear. How I wish I were there with her to help her get ready. Thats always the funnest part of date night. I love the time we spend together as she gets ready. She was really looking forward to going out with just her and Dad. I am so glad that Dave takes the time to make her feel so special. Blake called and shared with me that he was having a great night. He is watching the Red Sox and Indians game and rooting for the Soxs. The winner will proceed to the World Series and we can't wait for that. He is so excited as he gives me the run down of the game. I just love that kid. I miss him so much my heart aches as I hear him talk and talk. I wish I was home watching the game with him. Nan made his favorite chocolate chip cookies for him tonight and things just couldn't be better for him is what he said. She sure did put a smile on his face. Blake's two favorite things in this world are baseball and chocolate chip cookies. What a great way to spend a Friday night.

Well, I am going to go pick up our baby gherkin and rock her for a while. I can't stand to hear her struggling like this. I hope I can eventually get her to fall asleep. Thank you guys for supporting us through such a tough day. I know things are going to get better, after all we are concentrating on the phrase "be encouraged." Thats the best thing that he could have said to me today. Good night everyone. Trish

I am so glad to hear the words to be encouraged and pray that these words root deep in your heart and give you great peace. Always praying for Ashley to get better with each minute that passes. She is such a beautiful baby Trish and I know your presence there every day means the world to her, even if she is grumpy and uncomfortable from all she is going through. Date night sounds like so much fun and chocolate chip cookies are the way to any young mans heart. Nan is a wise lady. Hang in there Trish, and keep hope high. Jesus loves you and Ashley so much and so do I.

Sweet and heavenly sleep for you two girls tonight,
Love, Laurie in Ca.

I just love it when someone has just the right words to say and that's especially wonderful when it's your doctor! What a wise man he is. Still praying with all that is in me for Ash to feel better and for the both of you to get good, quality rest. And.....I'll continually pray for ya'll to get to come home soon. I know how blessed you would be to help Al get ready for her big dates and to kick back with Blake with his cookies and games. Thank God for cell phones so they can share some of that with you!!! Blessings and prayers for a good night. Would you like play by play reports on Allie's soccer game in the morning? I'll talk to you then. Love and Hugs, Grandma

I'll stand with Be encouraged! I'll pray the night thru...and we'll see what He has in store.

What a wonderful foundation of blessings your family has with Grandma and Nan and their love of Christ. I know a Graypa or two factors in there too...as I've been with you a long time reading on this blog.

I'm praying your family webcams will be up and running soon.

I am so glad you have a little light flickering at the end of your long dark tunnel. It may be long, and it may be dark, but there is light! Hurray! Praying you both get some much needed, and for Ash, painless rest.

p.s. I won't be able to come up tomorrow (Sat.), but Lord willing, Sunday is the plan. I will call anyway to make sure you read this.

I am so glad that you have a doctor who is not afraid to show compassion for little Ashley and you. I am glad that he prompted you to choose to be encouraged. That is postive, any way you look at it and it takes courage~~~So I am praying that today has been a better day for you and Ashley.

I am praying for the biopsy results to be encouraging and that she will not have to be hit with the "big guns". Praying for God's mercy and grace as you wait for answers.
Love to all, Janiece

That's so sweet that they have "date night". What a great father/daughter relationship he is building with her. You know she'll hold out for someone great like her dad. Way to go Dave. Praying for the biopsy results. "Be incouraged" are good words indeed.

I have been reading your blog for a few weeks. It has definately made me thankful for my kiddos health, and appreciate the small blessings. You are a very strong momma!!!

I did hear a song on the way to dinner and felt compelled to share the words with you. "He is the everlasting God, the everlasting God, He wont grow faint, and wont go weary!!!" He is complete control of Ashley and loves her more than even her momma!

And he loves you too, and is doing mighty things in your life and all around you!! Praise GOD!

She is beautiful in that picture! Wish I looked that good when I'm grumpy. She is a sweetheart, an angel.
What a wise and loving family you have. Many blessings. It is very sweet what you share of the family back home. Precious.
May you be home soon.

Well now, I just want to HUG that doctor. He's got the Patch Adams outlook on patient care and I love him for it (this coming from a former RN who used to cut the mouths out of magazine covers which people like Princess Di on them, making a mask and then going in to greet my patients as, "Princess Di reporting for duty!")

Ashley couldn't look more beautiful to me. She's wearing enormous doses of pure mother's love and it looks GREAT on her, Trish. And those photos where she crosses that little leg of hers and puts those arms behind her head? PRICELESS. She is, you know, priceless.
Blessings and continued prayers,
~Toni~

Trish - I have been following for about a year. I have been praying for your family. I am so sorry for the hard struggles you are going through right now. You have so many people in the WORLD praying for you (when I say you, I mean all your family).

I am so inspired by your honesty, your unwavering faith, the love for your children, and so many other parts of Christ that you show daily.

I know that you play your CD's in Ashley's room for a calming environment. I have made a CD for you of various artists; Phillips, Craig and Dean, Mercy Me, Faith Hill, Watermark, Prestonwood Choir, Chris Tomlin. These are just a few. With your permission, I would like to send this CD to you - to lift you up, encourage you, remind you of the wonderful love of Christ. So many of these songs remind me of you and your faith. So many of these songs have helped me get through when I have had my face to the floor in dispare. Music is such a passion of mine...and my 5 year old son's!

If you will allow me to share this with you, it would be a blessing for me. Please just let me know and I will get it in the mail.

Still praying...
God Bless,
Amy
