Our New "Home"
This morning I wanted to give you a little tour of our new "home". Ash and I have tried to make it feel as welcoming as possible. If they would only allow a couple of rugs to be placed around the floor then we might actually be settled. Anyway, here is what we have been blessed with and why we are so thankful.
This first photo is of our "bedroom". You can see Ash's crib. We are thrilled with this crib because it is one of the new ones. They had not come in before we left Omaha the first time. It is clean and white and attractive as opposed to the dirty, silver, unattractive one we used to use. Isn't it funny how God puts little blessings all around us.
This photo is of my bed/reading corner. I am so thankful for this bed. It lays out completely flat and I no longer have to sleep in my "favorite" recliner. This is truly a gift! I wasn't sure I could go another few months in that recliner. I love the window. It doesn't have a view, but it does have sunlight and I love that.
This a picture of our living room. Attractive don't you think? I actually requested this chair because I needed something to rock my sweet Ashley Kate in. Even though it is rickety and ugly I am thankful for it. It does what we wanted it to do, and it is a nice place to curl up with her under my blanket.
This is Ashley Kate in her "new" crib enjoying her newest book. Brenda, she loves it. It has lots of pictures of bright things and we can look through it for an hour without her getting tired of it. Thank you so much for thinking of her.
This is what her current reading list includes. I Spot! Yep, that's it. She doesn't want to look at any of her other books. I love the cover of it. A nice big picture of her "puppy". Sometimes she is content to just stare at the front cover and rub her little hand across Blue's picture. I often wonder what she is thinking while she does that.
This is what I am currently reading. All by Max of course. I love the colors on the covers. They remind me of the fall season which is my absolute favorite time of year. I am sad that we are stuck on the inside and not allowed to venture out in the cool air so these books make me think of being outside. The titles are, Just like Jesus, When God whispers your Name, and In the Eye of the Storm. I would highly recommend them. If you want to be ministered to while you read then this is the author for your. Thank You, Lou Ann for bringing them.
Outside of my baby the absolute favorite thing in my room is found in this next picture. My sweet friend Heather knows me well. Yesterday she stopped by and gave me these. I love them and I almost cried. Since I can't go to the pumpkin patch she brought it to me. It just makes my little "office" so inviting. Thank you for thinking of me. I love ya!
Finally I share with you my connection to all of you. This is my favorite place to spend time when Ashley Kate is resting. It makes me feel like I'm not here alone. It gives me a place to share the thoughts that run through my mind and my heart. I gain perspective as I write to you and I believe it keeps me sane in an insane place. Thank you for showing up on Ashley's story and for encouraging me. Its like you are here with me and that means more than you will ever know.
I really wanted to share pictures of MY bathroom and shower, but I felt that was going a little too far. Just believe me when I tell you that I am SO thankful for that room. It may be old and dirty, but it is private and it is a place for me to relax in as I stand there until the hot water runs cold. I never thought I would be so grateful for a bathroom, but trust me when I say that I am.
I realize its not home and its not very inviting, but we are making it as comfortable as possible. The room smells nice (its that Hawaiian breeze I've been telling you about). I believe it is a must for all hospital rooms. I'm not allowed to burn a candle, but thanks to Heather I now have one to smell when I am longing for home. We keep the music playing softly in the background and pictures of our Blake and Allie close by. Making the best out of what we have been given.
Ash is struggling a lot with her treatment for rejection. She cries, I cry, and sometimes our nurses have tears in their eyes as well. Two more days and then we hope our biopsy shows that it made a difference. We are giving her some sedation to try and keep her from hurting herself. After a long night of screaming, clawing, and pulling she is finally resting. Her bowel continues to bleed at a slower pace than the other night( a result of the rejection). We are getting her ready for another blood transfusion. The only thing we can do for her is support her with blood products. Going in to stop the bleeding is not an option. She is safer and better off if we allow it to clot and stop on its own. Your prayers for our gherkin during this time are so appreciated.
I know this was long and probably boring too, but some had asked to see our room so here it is.
Our address at the hospital is:

Now I can envision your "place" when I'm praying for you. A good hospital room can make a lot of difference! I'm glad you've gotten a good one this time, and I love how you've made it comfortable for you and Ashley.
As always, I'm praying for you two today!
Praying for you and your sweet girl. I love how Ashley sits with her legs crossed and her arms behind her head. She is gorgoeus!
This post wasn't boring at all! Ashley doesn't know it yet, but she is so incredibly blessed to have you as a mom. Or, maybe she does know it! Anyway, still praying.
I love it!! A tour of your home away from home (by the way, your special touches of decorating with your few possessions make it inviting!) I love you two!!
Praying for a peaceful day and continued healing for Ashley.
You're in my heart, thoughts and prayers. Lou Ann
YAY! I'm so glad she likes her book. As soon as I saw it, I knew she surely needed it for her very own.
And hey - I have one of those same pumpkins! They were a Bunco prize last year. :)
What an amazing difference between your new place and your old one. Wow! It's practically roomy!
Take care and keep us posted! It's so nice to see her sitting up!
Brenda
I love how you make the best of what you've been given, Trish. What an outpouring of love Ashley has in you. The Father has blessed you so with patience and a loving, encouraging attitude. Thanks for sharing your "home", and the things that lift your spirit. Blessings always. Gretchen

Trish, your positive attitude it wonderful:) And your room looks very cozy. Wish I could come visit for a bit and read your little one her book, while you venture outdoors.
But for now I will just pray for you and your family. May the Lord bless you with fresh faith in Him today..... just as your air freshener refreshes your room, May the Holy Spirit refresh you!
Trish, thanks for sharing the pictures. I loved the tour! It's nice to be able to picture in my head where you guys are when I'm reading your posts. I am amazed at how you truly make the most of the situation you are in. You are a special lady, and Miss Ashley is so blessed to have you with her! Every picture you send of her with her legs crossed and arms behind her head just crack me up! I hope you have a good day! Love and blessings, Karen
Enjoyed seeing what your housing is like these days. Praying for you always.
I relly liked seeing the Diet coke in the pictures too. That's a staple to me!
Thanks so much for sharing your home with us. Now we can all "see" you sitting in your office updating us, as Ashley is resting in her new crib.
We continue to pray for you all! And praying that God will continue to work miracles in Ashleys beautiful little body!
Thanks for the pictures! You've done a great job with what you were given. Praying for Ashley's quick recovery from the medicine and the medicine doing it's job beyond imagination! God bless!
Hi Trish, Your posts are never long and boring. When I read them, I feel like we are having coffee together and you are filling me in. So, keep writing your heart in visits here, they let us know how to pray. It is good to see where you are writing from. And to Grandma, you are in my prayers big time too. I am a grandma too and while my grandson is here today, my heart aches for you and how hard this must be to know what Ashley is going through right now. She is so precious and her pictures say it all. We will all continue to carry you in our hearts as we hope over the next two days of treatment, things improve greatly. Trish, thank you so much for posting the address there so we can send you some "quality mail". May God shower you with many little blessings to make your day pass quickly.
His Joy and His Blessings today,
Love, Laurie in Ca.
Thanks for sharing your new "home" with us. Your pumpkins are so pretty. I will keep those titles in mind when im looking for a new book. Im currently doing a bible study called the Frazzled Female.
Praying for your little one.
I love your little "house." You have done a wonderful job making it as comfortable as you could - I think that helps Ashley and you too!
It amazes me how something in her little body is making her sick but she looks so healthy, happy, content and loved! WOW!
Continuing to pray..
Amy
No, not boring at all...helps me to see where you are when I pray...asking God to go beyond your wildest and most wonderful dreams!
Love and prayers,
Holly
How lovely to see your "home!" I wasn't the least bit bored, as I enjoyed the tour! The personal touches are so nice, and I'm thrilled for you that you have the blessings of a flat bed and your own bathroom. (I think I already said once before that I'm glad you have a bathroom. I guess I'm repeating it because I know how important that would be to me in your situation, too!)
Praying for more healing to be taking place with every passing minute!
So you , literally, DO live in the hospital. That is absolutely amazing. If I had a child who was staying long term in a hospital I would have it no other way either. I just didn't know you could actually take up residence in the hospital. No one can ever tell you you weren't completely committed to your your children, that's for sure! I admire how you are able to make something positive out of your situation. I wish I could send something to help lift your spirits!
It wasn't boring at all. You've had many little blessings and I pray they continue.
It's a woman thing, we need to make ourselves a "home" wherever we are. And your own shower! I can relate to how much that means to you! Praying for Ashley and all of you.
The pictures of Ashley are precious!
It looks to me like a room full of love! Fabulous job making a home away from home. We are praying for you all. I have four daughters and they are constantly asking about Ashley Kate, that is one of the first questions they ask every morning. My 12 year old has asked her youth group to join her in praying for your family, especially your son since they are the same age.
I wish I were close enough to come by and bring you an occasional comfort and a diet Coke!! I see from the pictures that you enjoy them, they are my weakness!! What I can bring you are very vigilant prayers and thoughts for your precious family.
May you be blessed with a restful, peaceful day.
Yeah!! An Address!! I would just LOVE to send you some yummy bath linens. I am grinning now just thinking of what all to get. But I dont want to overcrowd your little area if someone has beat me to it. Please let me know if this has already been done. Praying and praying!!
Thank you for allowing us into your daily life. The pictures were great.
Praying for you as always!
Lori and family
Thanks for the tour, and for letting us in yet even more. You are so great to share. I am a visual person and love to picture who I am thinking about (and praying for!).
Thinking of you both tonight and hoping you're a pair of sleeping beauties! :)
Heidi
Trish, you are such a girl and I love hearing all about the fun details of your new home. I also love how you have Ashley all fixed up. A girl always feels better when her hair is fixed and she has on a cute outfit. I think everything you are doing is helping your Ashley Kate in ways the medical profession could never understand (or appreciate). She is so adoriable, I say that everytime, but I'm sure you don't get tired of hearing it. We love you and continue to pray with you through this treatment time. May it prove to have been worth it tomorrow. I admire your strength and faith as you walk through this trial. Kiss that sweet baby girl for all of us who wish we were there in the flesh.
I am back - I am praying - I am loving the pictures! Have a great day. Sunshine
I think it is beautiful! As long as it serves your needs it is wonderful.
I love the pumpkins I got 4 of those very pumpkins today at garden ridge!! I feel connected lol
I am continuing to pray pray pray.
We will be praying for Ashley at church tonight.
I think it's bee-yoo-ti-ful! Little pickle sittin in her crib reading books... oh it warms my heart! That looked like a comfy chair! I loved the porcelain gourds. I am so grateful that you have a nice room to stay in.
-Anna
That's one awesome room.
I slept in that same blue chair many nights last year. The nurses gave me an egg crate (like the one for a twin bed) to lay on top of it. It made it so comfortable. Ask them about it. As for your own bathroom/praise Jesus!/and an Amen! The PICU at scottish rite did not have private baths----lots of lysol is all I can say.
I can tell you have rested more. You sound so positive and strong. Keep up the tough work. I hope the three back home are doing great.
Gwen
Oh-I realize you are out of the PICU-we just never made it that far. I guess you are getting to relish the joys of the private room world beyond and ICU world :0)
This was such a neat post Trish! I loved seeing the way you made the best out of a very difficult situation. Good for you and what a blessing for your little pickle. :)
d:)
Love your home and the way you have it all fixed up for you all right now. We are continuing to pray, really hard that you will be home soon. Our GOD is so BIG! Thanks again for sharing your heart and as I continue to say--you have changed my life and the way I see things and I love you for that! Wishing you a night of rest and know you are always being lifted to the throne!
Mistie
Thanks for the pictures...now I can see Ashley when I'm praying for her. I showed them to the kids, too, because they are praying for her too. I've never been that neat in a hospital room! I'm impressed!
Dear Trish,
You do not know me yet. My name is Michelle and i have just started posting comments here. I think you may have read my first comment where i got a little bit of reaction. I did not post for reaction. Just trying to be honest...anyway, i admire how you made Ashley's hospital room a "home" and with your permission I would like to send you and Ashley something to keep in your room until you are sent home! It's called a Mezuzah. I included some information about Mezuzah's. If you would like me to send it, please let me know and i will gladly do so!! There are some cute ones for children!!
What is a Mezuzah?
A mezuzah is a sacred parchment inscribed by hand with two portions of Torah. It is stored in a protective case and hung on the doorposts of Jewish homes.
Parchment
The parchment (klaf) come from a kosher species of animal.
Inscribed by Hand
The person who writes on the parchment is called a sofer (scribe). Scribes are trained to inscribe the mezuzah in the same manner and script as the Torah. Any mistakes make the mezuzah invalid.
Torah
The two portions of Torah written on the parchment are Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) and Vehaya (Deuteronomy 11:13-21). Both of these Torah portions include the verse, "And you shall inscribe these words upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates."
Protective Case
Once the mezuzah is written, it is rolled from left to right and placed in a protective case.
Hung on Doorposts
Mezuzot are affixed to the doorpost of each room in the home and place of business, except for the bathrooms.
Why Hang a Mezuzah?
In the Torah, God commands the Jewish people to hang mezuzot on their doorposts. Two Torah portions, Shema and Vehaya, include the verse: "And you shall inscribe these words upon the doorposts of your house and upon your gates."
The Shema (Deuteronomy 6:4-9) begins with "Hear O Israel, the Lord is our God, the Lord is One." The Shema reminds us that God is always present in our lives, and that we should keep God's words constantly in our minds and in our hearts. The Shema tells us that one way to do this is by writing them on the doorposts of our house. Vehaya (Deuteronomy 11:13-21) assures us of God's compensation if we fulfill his commandments (mitzvot).
It is a Torah commandment to hang mezuzot on our doorposts. Mezuzot, in turn, remind of God's presence and of our duty to fulfill God's commandments.
How to Hang a Mezuzah
A mezuzah is affixed upon all the doorways of Jewish homes and businesses, except for bathrooms.
Blessing on Affixing a Mezuzah
Before affixing a mezuzah to a doorpost, the following blessing is recited:
Barukh ata Adonai Eloheinu Melekh ha-olam, asher kidshanu b'mitzvotav v'tzivanu likbo-a mezuzah.
Blessed are You, Adonai our God, Ruler of the universe, Who sanctifies us with holy commandments and commands us to fix a mezuzah.
The blessing is only recited once (usually on the front door) for all the mezuzot in the house . After reciting the blessing, no words are spoken until all mezozot are hung throughout the house.
Where to Affix a Mezuzah
The mezuzah is placed in the following way:
on the right doorpost as one enters the room.
at the bottom of the upper third of the doorpost (shoulder height).
in a slightly slanted position so that the top points toward the inside of the room.
How to Care for a Mezuzah
Mezuzot should be examined by a reliable scribe when purchased and at least twice every seven years. Age and weather can cause the ink to fade and crack, thereby invalidating the mezuzah.
Mezuzot Offer Divine Protection
According to the Talmud, keeping the commandment of mezuzah brings long life and protection for members of the home.
Furthermore, it is believed every mezuzah that is affixed adds to the divine protection of people everywhere. The name of God (letters Shin-Daled-Yud) is written on the back of mezuzot. It is said that these letters also stand for Shomer Daltot Yisrael, which means Guardian of the Doors of Israel
God Bless both you and Ashley!! You are in my prayers, and know that you do not have to hang the Mezuzah, you can just display it for strength!!
Michelle
Hi Trish!
Sorry I didn't make it tonight--late case. Are you up for dinner tomorrow? Give me a call if you get a minute and let me know, ok?
(PS--You make the room look so GOOD! So impressed!)
Trish, Thanks so much for the tour of your room, you are pleasing to God by taking of the little room He has given you and your baby. It's not home, but it is keeping her well & you have made it comforting and safe for Ashley! She looks so relaxed and peaceful, you cannot tell the turmoil that is going on inside her little body. Love your office, you are definately not alone!
Prayers, sleep tight (and flat :) ),
Brandi in PA
Hey Trish,
It is so gracious of you to express such gratitude. But know that we all are mom's who "get" what is going on with you, Ash and your family. We are only toooooo glad to be helpful in any way we can.
You seem very sensititive to all of us, promise that if there was ever something we COULD do, that you would actually ask. Many of us are not anywhere near Omaha, but we know how to write, how to drive to the post office, etc. Most of us only wish we could do more.
Do you ever get to the Lied? Life is so much more normal there. You have laundry right down the hall, a REAL bed, a REAL shower. And you can eat a little better. And that is the last step before HOME!
Hope you get there soon,
M
It looks just about as good as a hospital room can look! You've done a great job! Wish I could come visit and meet little miss Ashley!
You are never boring.Your writing is a gift to the world. Nice to see where you are staying. Write as much as you want and need to. I will pray especially for the tiny pickle in this awful time. We are always thinking of her. Colleen
Your room may not be home, but your attitude about it makes homy. Ash is so blessed to have a family like yours. Praying for restful sleep and continued healing....
Hi
I came over from Kelli's blog and wanted o say a prayer for you and your sweet Blue's Clue's loving baby. May today be a day filed with promise for you both. Because of Jesus, Bobbie
