Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

Well Rested

Ash and I have been awake since around 4 this morning, but up until that time we slept like babies. That's two nights in a row of good, rejuvenating rest. I think its amazing what a good nights sleep can do for you. We have rocked and sang and spent time just being together. I sat her on the bed to put some clean jammies on her and she reached out to place both of her hands on my chest and give me a little pat. My heart melted! I kissed her on top of that beautiful head and scooped her right back up. The way she chooses to show affection toward me is so, so sweet. I love this baby very much.

Our room is very peaceful this morning. The lights are still off and the curtain is drawn. The room smells fresh and inviting from our favorite air freshener. I much prefer the smell of a creme brulle or butter cream Yankee candle burning on the mantle, but for now Glade plug ins Hawaiian breeze is doing the trick. Ash is tucked in her crib under her quilt that Aunt Toni made her and we are listening to a beautiful classical Christmas arrangement. I know some of you may be balking at the idea of Christmas music in October, but there is nothing more peaceful and soothing. It is doing wonders for my spirit.

I just got the word that we will be transferring out of the PICU today. At any time actually. This is good and bad. Good because we will have a lot more privacy and less people in and out of our room. Bad because the friends that I have made work here in the PICU. All in all it will be good for us, perhaps one step closer to going home? I'm going to think of it as that. It will be much easier to convince them of sending us there if we are not in ICU.

Ashley will have a scope done of her bowel this afternoon. Tomorrow we will know the results of the biopsies. Perhaps from that point on we will develop some type of plan. I know that feedings are the real key to getting released so I am going to be working on them to move us in that direction. Well, I suppose I should start packing for our move.

Thank you for your prayers. Thank you for you presence. Have a wonderful day. God bless. Trish

Wow! GOd is really answering prayers! To know that Ashley is moving out of the PICU after last week's scare is such a blessing! We'll pray that you find new friends on your new unit! Maybe they will be more friendly, because they don't deal with the same intensity of patients as those on the PICU. Whatever, the case may be, we're just happy to know that she is moving in the right direction! Praying that she won't have to return to the PICU and that you will be able to make your new room just as comfortable for both of you!

Ashley's love for you is so evident in her little actions to you! Has she smiled yet? Even if you haven't caught a glimpse of her smile, I am sure that she is smiling on the inside! Why? Because she is secure in knowing that you are there with her!

Praying all goes well with the scope today, and that you move in the direction of feeding, so you can go home.

Enjoy your Christmas music! It's a time to celebrate the birth of Christ, and nothing can be more soothing, I agree. I'm praying that you'll be listening to it back here in East Texas this December!

So glad y'all got some much needed rest. And great news about the move. Maybe Ashley will get even more rest and get better faster with fewer interruptions. Praying for y'all to have peace and comfort after your move and even more importantly that the scope goes well this afternoon and y'all can start planning.

Sleeping like babies, that is music to my heart. How refreshing for both of you. I am praying for the scope to go smoothly and that the results are nothing short of amazing. It is comforting to know that God has already scoped her with His Eyes and He knows what comes next. Ashley is safe in His Arms. Rest in Him Trish, He has you covered. And Christmas music in October is a beautiful and hopeful rest for your spirit. May your move be smooth and great people waiting to meet you there. More people who will be blessed by your example of Gods love.

Continuing to pray all day for miracles, both big and small.

I can hear a bit more peace in your "voice" this morning than last night. I'm so sorry things have been so rough, but how wonderful for the good news of moving out of PICU! I know you will be away from your friends, but I'll be praying for God to prepare some new ones for you in your new room. And I'm sure the extra privacy will be nice for you and Ashley both. Have a good move, and I'll be anxious to hear the results from the scope! Love and blessings, Karen

Romans 15:13 May the God of all HOPE fill you with all Joy and Peace in Believing, that you may abound in HOPE by the POWER of the Holy Spirit. The preacher used this verse yesterday in his sermon and I have been thinking about you and your family since then. I am so glad that we are promised that Hope, Joy, Peace, Believing that God is in control and is handling all of our troubles for us. Praising Him for giving the two of you a restful night. I will be praying for the scope and the results and can't wait to hear about how you decorate your new home(we all know what that means...room) Have a blessed and hopefully relaxing day.

Trish ~ My heart aches to hear how lonely you are. I can't imagine. I can remember when Kate was in the NICU the thing that hurt the most was the feeling of having no control. But like you, I could control the love that my baby felt and the security that I brought to her.

You are doing an amazing job. Never doubt for one minute that what you are doing isn't right. I will cover you in prayer today as you make the move to the new room and also for the scope. I thank God for the precious friends that He has placed into your life and that those friends provide you comfort. Thank you God for sleep for both Ashley and Trish.

Love, Jule White

Moving out of PICU has to be good news. I'm sure the friends you made in PICU will check on you and Ashley during their lunch breaks and before and after work. You'll just make MORE friends.

So glad to hear that you both had good rest! I have something to put in the mail to you. Will you have a new "address" or can I just send it to patient mail in Ashley's name?

Trish, I'm so excited about you and Ash going to another room out of the PICU - I believe in my heart that means she's heading in the right direction; being healed daily by God's own devine hands. I know that the Lord already has hand picked those in the new unit that you are to be light and salt for and my prayer is that those hearts are even now being prepared to receive Him into their lives or for their walks with Him to be stregthened or your walk to be encouraged by those who know Him. Devine appointments. I pray for continued rest for you and Gherkin - I miss you so much it hurts, but I'm praying really really hard that it won't be long before she will be able to get you both back here where you belong. Oh how I hope and pray that is much sooner than is expected by her "team". She has shown the work of almighty God so many times before and once again we see Him and His magnificent healing grace and mercy. He is surely to be praised for she lives!!!!! I love you both dearly and can't wait for the day of your return home. Grandma

Yay! So glad you get a new "house" with a new living room, office, etc. It will no doubt be a big upgrade! I didn't fully appreciate how truly confined you are in PICU until I saw it for my own eyes. Many people have closets much bigger than that!

Less super-close, constant activity right outside the room... a real live door-door instead of a sliding glass set-up... you may need to think of a whole new "room" or create! :-)

Hopefully, tho, your stay there will be short and sweet and you'll be on your way home in no time!

I am so glad you were able to get some rest. What a blessing. I am rejoicing you are moving to another room which means closer to being home! Yay! I will be praying for the procedure this afternoon and that the biopsy results show something so you can have an answer and move in the right direction. This is not a baby step issue! This is huge, well, I think so anyway! Congrats on your new apartment! Way to go Ash! But most importantly, PRAISE THE LORD that things are progressing the way they are! So very happy for all of you, that includes the rest of you down in Texas, too! Keep up the good work, and can't wait to hear what the biopsy report is tomorrow.

GREAT news about transferring!! I know I've said this before, but I really am planning on visiting tomorrow afternoon (I've been sick with some sort of cold/sinus thing, I figured you didn't want me bringing that nastiness up there) so let me know if you need anything. I'm still praying for you guys!!
