Ashley's Story

She will leave fingerprints all over your heart

LOVE...

... suffers long, and is kind, Love envies not... Love is not proud, Love is not easily provoked, Love thinks no evil... Love rejoices in the truth. Love bares all things. Love believes all things. Love hopes all things. Love endures all things. Love never fails.
(TAKEN FROM I CORINTHIANS 13)

Because I love Him I will not be provoked. Because I love Him I will not think evil of someone else. Because I love Him I will be long suffering. Because I love Him I will bare this. Because I love Him I will endure.

I love Ashley Kate because He loved me first. Ashley Kate will learn to love others through my example and I wish for her to be kind. To stay humble. To believe. To hope. To not fail. I am her mommy not because I deserve to be, but because He loves me and He loves her.

Thank you to each one who loves Him so much that you allow yourselves to love our little girl. Trust me when I say to you that my heart did not dwell on the ugliness, it broke for the one who spewed it. I feel strengthened by the prayers you are praying on behalf of our family. Thank you from the deepest part of my heart.

DEAR ANONYMOUS,
The Bible is not difficult to understand. It is a love story between a Father and His children. His love holds no record of wrong and it does not waiver because my sweet Ashley has a broken body. It is the spirit He created in her that He loves. Loves so much that He gave His only son to die for her. I pray you can one day know how very much He loves you. I pray you will someday know how it feels to love someone without condition. Love them with the love of Christ. Love them regardless of what the world may see or may not see. If that day ever comes for you then you will not be "disgusted" you will be changed. Praying for you tonight and saying to you that you are loved. TRISH

Trish, somehow I didn't see the anonymous comment from earlier until just now.

I was just telling my husband the other day that some people, when faced with my daughter and her syndrome diagnosis, would call us "suffering" or "misfortunate." We look at her and see a gift straight from the Father, one that has not only blessed us, but also our other children, who have learned compassion and grace and many other important lessons, and also thousands of people around the world who have heard her story. She's not suffering, and she wasn't a mistake. She's a miracle, and she's doing more to impact people than I've done in over 30 years!

Your sweet Ashley is also a gift, straight from the Father, and her life is not only a blessing, but also an impetus for so much life change in so many people. Of course, I'm not telling you anything you don't know!

You continue to bless me with your graciousness and your love for our Father. I'm praying for you tonight, as you walk through deep waters, that you feel His presence in a mighty way. And I'm praying for the anonymous one, because, as she said, she doesn't "get it." I pray that she will experience the kind of Love that will help her "get it." God said that the wisdom of the world is not His kind of wisdom, and it takes a relationship with Him to really understand that.

I'm sorry for the longest comment ever, but your gracious response really hit me, and as always, I am learning from you. Blessings on you tonight as you shine on!!

What a gracious, loving response. How incredible that you are not operating out of a place of hurt, or anger - towards men or the Lord.

Thank you for that.

You may never know how much.

Thank you.

Trish,

I have followed Ashley's story for the last couple months. I even checked on her a couple times daily while traveling in France last week. You and Dave are absolutely fabulous (and as well as your other children)!! My thoughts and prayers are with all of you daily and Ashley is on my church (St. Barnabas) prayer chain. You are a gift of LOVE to each other and a wonderful example for the rest of us. Thinking and praying for you on Bainbridge Island, WA.

Ashley's life is all about LOVE.

Anyone with FAITH can see it, anyone with HOPE can see it and certainly only with LOVE can see it...

I pray and think of Ashley daily. She has changed my prayer life into something dar more serious than I have ever had.

Trish-

Beautiful response to the poster's comments. Many people don't understand and are critical of our decision to adopt a special needs child. She has blessed us more than words can ever express and it is a privilege to be chosen by God to be her parents.

As you know well, children are not their medical condition, they are just our kids and we love them! I know the Father's love for me so much more by the blessing of adoption!

Praying for you daily! Hope that you get some much needed rest and that you have a peaceful weekend!

I am continually encouraged by your testimony. Whether it's your attitude toward doctors or nurses, or dealing with a negative comment, you always put Christ first. What a wonderful example you are to us - even those like me who have never met you. May God continue to pour out His blessings on you and give you peace.

Hope you all were able to get some sleep and Ashley is doing better this morning.I too will be praying for the poster below. What it comes down to at the end of the day is..We are all God's children and in his eyes he loves us all the same!!! despite our special needs.May God touch and soften Anonymous's heart in a powerful way.Continuing to hold your family close in thoughts and prayers. Trish, thinking of you and Ashley, as always and still praying for you both. You let the light of Christ shine through you once again so brilliantly! I pray also that the person who left the negetive comment receives the free gift of Love through Jesus Christ our Savior and experiences the wonderful life change it brings! They will be in my prayers from now on. I love you girls and you're never out of my mind, heart, and prayers. Grandma

Trish - I was glad to read what you had written to the wonderful Anonymous commenter. People who write things like that are never happy with themselves so they must tear at the ones like you who are happy and praising in the worst of circumstances. The one thing they said that was the complete truth was - I DONT GET THAT!! No Kidding???? :) God has a crown for you and Dave that will shine like no other.

I have always found it amazing that people who make comments like that, never have the courage to sign their names to the words they write. We must always remember that Satan is on the edge of the circle waiting for our weak moments and what a time for him to strike through a person like that. I am also amazed at how 'special needs' children are so rejected. Just as He was.

LOVE YOU TONS and pray for you daily.

Heidi Freeberg
